And he couldn't just. Leave King to die. So taking responsibility to help this crazy thing bleeding out on the ground became TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE CRAZY THING and just. grow fond of it.
Intellectually he does get that King is dangerous and insane and probably not someone he should associate with but WHOOPS HE CARES? TOO MUCH? TO LET GO?
basically it is straight up dere and a lot of worry and yes some possessiveness like King is his pet murderer or something BUT STILL SEEING HIM AS A. PERSON. AND SOMEONE HE SUPER CARES ABOUT. EVEN THOUGH HE KNOWS HE SHOULDN'T. and relies on him a bit as well which is possibly the worst part.
